This Privacy Policy explains how SquatAlarm ("the app", "we", "us") handles information when you use it. SquatAlarm is an alarm app that can only be dismissed by completing a set of squats, verified using on-device camera pose detection. We built it to keep as little data as possible off your device, and this policy reflects exactly what the app does — nothing more.
We do not operate a backend server for this app. As a result, we do not collect, receive, or have access to:
SquatAlarm uses your device's camera, with your permission, to detect squat repetitions when dismissing an alarm or verifying a set. Camera frames are analyzed in real time, entirely on your device, using an on-device pose-detection model. Frames are never saved to a file, added to your photo library, uploaded to any server, or transmitted anywhere — they exist only in memory for the moment it takes to detect your movement, then are discarded. If you decline camera access, or the camera is unavailable, the app offers a manual tap-counter fallback so the alarm can still be dismissed.
The app stores the following data only in its private local storage on your device (using Android's DataStore), so it can function without an internet connection or account:
None of this data is transmitted to us or to any third party. It stays on your device and is deleted when you uninstall the app or clear the app's storage from Android Settings.
SquatAlarm supports Android's built-in Auto Backup feature, which is a service provided by Google, not by us. If you have Android backup enabled on your device, the local app data described above (alarms, settings, workout history) may be included in the encrypted backup Android periodically saves to your own Google Account, so it can be restored if you reinstall the app or switch devices. We have no access to this backup — it is stored and managed entirely by Google under your Google Account. You can control this behavior in your device's system Settings.
SquatAlarm offers optional Pro subscriptions, sold and processed entirely through Google Play Billing. When you subscribe, Google handles your payment information directly — we never see or store your card details. The app locally verifies the authenticity of your purchase using Google's standard purchase-signature verification, and stores only a "Pro: yes/no" flag on your device. Purchase identifiers are used solely to communicate with Google Play's own billing system and are not sent to us or any third party.
SquatAlarm requests the following Android permissions, each used only for its stated purpose:
| Permission | Why it's needed |
|---|---|
| Camera | On-device squat detection while dismissing an alarm |
| Exact alarms / Schedule exact alarm | Ring your alarm at the exact time you set |
| Receive boot completed | Re-arm your alarms after your device restarts |
| Post notifications | Show the ongoing alarm notification while it rings |
| Foreground service / media playback | Keep the alarm sound playing reliably while ringing |
| Full-screen intent / Turn screen on / Show when locked | Wake and display the alarm screen over the lock screen |
| Wake lock | Keep the device awake while the alarm is ringing |
| Vibrate | Vibrate alongside the alarm sound, if enabled |
| Ignore battery optimizations (request) | Lets you optionally exempt the app so some manufacturers don't silence the alarm |
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties, because we do not collect any data to share in the first place. The app contains no advertising SDKs, no analytics SDKs, and no crash-reporting or telemetry services.
SquatAlarm is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, since the app does not collect personal information at all.
Since all app data lives only on your device, you can delete it at any time by clearing the app's storage (Android Settings → Apps → SquatAlarm → Storage → Clear storage) or by uninstalling the app.
If we change how the app handles data in the future, we will update this page and revise the effective date above.
